Whales in the Ocean

Whales (Latin “Cetacea”) are known as a family of vermin. They are marine mammals that inhabit in the world’s oceans and are counted by millions. As a spokesman said they were in length of 1.2 till 33 m (especially it concerns the blue whale) and their weight may be about 160 kg. They are amazing. Some kinds of whales have teeth and others do not have any. Toothy whales eat fish and squids. Whales have only front limbs – they are called “fins”.
When we were planning our cruise along the shore of Hawaii, we had already known that whales could be seen only in winter. In this time they are heading from cold zones to warmer climate to reproduce the breed. It was exciting to watch them throwing out the fountain of water during the expiration. Sometimes it happens very noisy. It is interesting to know that whales can be under the water about 40 minutes. We don’t know the reason of their beating with a tail on water, but it is exciting and in some cases very dangerous. Our ship was rather far from the whales, which we were watching, and we were not scared. The cruise was a great success. We were lucky to see whales – it’s a rare show, even in winter.
By the way, we were told a romantic story about whales. As they are so popular, they “occupy” the spot in the Milky Way. There is an equatorial constellation “whale” meaning Latin “Cetus” , in which one can find a changeable star of Peace. It can be seen in the fall and in the winter.
